Historique du musée :

Le Musée Auto Moto Vélo (Automobile, Motorcycle & Bike Museum) is located in the former Châtellerault arms factory founded by Louis XVIII on the 14th July 1819. Le Musée Auto Moto Vélo (The Automobile, Motorcycle & Bike Museum) illustrates the impact of the automobile on everyday life as well as the general history of bicycles, motorcycles, scooters and mopeds. Rare vehicles such as a Panhard and Levassor from 1893, a C14 Voisin from 1929 and Longchamp de Couçy prototypes from 1953 are displayed alongside more popular cars such as the Ford T or the 2 CV. One of the highlights of these collections is a remarkable selection of French-made scooters and motorbikes as well as bikes fitted with an add-on motor and mopeds, which French motorcycle manufacturers diversified into as of 1950. In addition, the museum features a very interesting collection of motors, accessories (lanterns, travel cases) and advertising posters.

When reaching the end of their tour visitors will discover some of the treasures from the former Sully Museum’s collection, which counts over 16,000 items. Archaeological artefacts, headdresses, local arms as well as artworks will give visitors an insight into the history of the city and the region it is in.
